Mississippi Power admits that they may have to repay federal tax credit money

The Atlanta based company would have to return 234- million dollars if their Kemper County power plant is not in operation by April 19. The company says that they will probably not meet the deadline. The 6.3 billion dollar plant in eastern Mississippi is already generating electricity by burning natural gas but key parts of the design to strip out carbon dioxide and other byproducts is not operational as required. Mississippi Power hopes to identify other tax benefits to keep customers from feeling the pain.
