Mississippi Nissan Plant Lays off More Workers

CANTON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Citing low profits Nissan Motor Company has laid off 381 contract workers, reducing the total workforce at its Canton plant to about 6000. Nissan had projected as many as 700 layoffs but some workers quit on their own and others took buyouts and no direct Nissan employees were laid off. The company cut production of NV passenger and cargo vans from two shifts to one in January and reduced production of Titan and Frontier pickups from three shifts to two last month.
