Mississippi Coroner Arrested on Funeral Fraud Charges

GRENADA, MS (Ben Caxton) — The north Mississippi Coroner who was indicted in May on charges of selling unlicensed funeral plans was hit with more charges from a new indictment and arrested on Monday. Grenada County Coroner, 51-year-old Eddie “Skeeter” Robinson III is accused in the new indictment of collecting more than $14,000 from 2004 to 2017 on sales of prepaid funeral plans. He’s been charged with conspiracy, embezzlement, false pretense, insurance fraud, and wire fraud. Secretary of State Jim Hood’s office sanctioned Robinson years ago for unlicensed sales and began the current investigation. If convicted, Robinson faces up to 80 years in prison, $110,000 in fines, plus restitution.
