Mississippi Blues Trail Unveils Another Marker

(Jackson, MS)- The Mississippi Blues Trail will honor the Mississippi Gulf Coast Blues & Heritage Festival with a marker unveiling at the Jackson County Fairgrounds in Pascagoula. A ceremony is scheduled Friday. The festival, celebrating its 25th year, will follow on Saturday. U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Winston Smith founded the Mississippi Gulf Coast Blues Commission and in 1991. When Smith arrived in Mississippi, he found there were no such festivals on the coast. To fill the void, he and a group of supporters pledged their own funds to co-sponsor the first Mississippi Gulf Coast Blues Festival.
