Mississippi At Bottom Of State Economy Rankings

WASHINGTON, DC (Ben Caxton) — Personal-finance website WalletHub recently analyzed the Best & Worst State Economies; Arkansas ranked 48th and Mississippi finished 49th. In determining America’s top economic performers, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 27 key indicators of economic performance and strength ranging from GDP growth to startup activity to share of jobs in high-tech industries. Washington State was first overall with the highest value of exports per capita at $11,390. California, which ranks as the sixth largest economy in the world, was second and Utah ranked third with the highest number of independent-inventor patents per 1000 working-age residents, nearly 8 times higher than in Mississippi, the state with the lowest. 8th-place New Hampshire has the lowest share of population living below poverty level, 8.9 percent, while Mississippi has the highest at 22.5 percent.
