Mississippi A Finalist For $1.6B Auto Plant

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Toyota and Mazda have partnered to fund a new $1.6B joint-venture auto plant. The only question remaining, is where to build. Bloomberg Financial News says Mississippi appears to be the front runner because it already makes Corollas in Blue Springs at the Toyota plant that opened there in 2011. The state already has a “supply chain” for Toyota and also has a Nissan plant in Canton. But competition is fierce. Alabama, Kentucky, Texas, Tennessee and other states are likely to try and woo the auto makers with incentives to build the 4,000 employee plant in their states. Preliminary plans are to have the plant in operation by 2021.
