Mississippi Job Rate Reaches Historic High

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Mississippi’s job rate is near a historic high while the unemployment rate is close to a historic low. Figures from the state department of employment security show the number of nonfarm jobs in Mississippi rose by 800 in October to 1,168,900, the second highest number ever recorded in the state. Since October 2017 the number of jobs in Mississippi has increased by 13,800 and October unemployment was 4.7%, the third lowest level of unemployment ever recorded in Mississippi…one-tenth of a percentage point lower than a month earlier in September 2018 and October 2017.
