MHP Holiday Roadblocks Begin Again Tonight

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Mississippi Highway Patrol Troopers will be rolling out the roadblocks to stop Thanksgiving travelers starting tonight at 6:00 PM. The roadblocks to search vehicles, drivers, and passengers for any violations of the law will continue along with saturation patrols designed to combat speeding and distracted driving through Sunday night at midnight. The State Patrol says last year MHP investigated 171 crashes with 2 fatalities and made 67 DUI arrests and bills the holiday roadblocks as a way to combat drunk driving despite statistics showing that DUI’s are rarely the infractions for which people are stopped, ticketed, or arrested anymore.
