Memorial Day Massacre Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

LINCOLN COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — Willie Cory Godbolt, accused in the 2017 Memorial Day Weekend killings of eight people in Lincoln County made an appearance in court yesterday and pled not guilty to all charges. He was arrested last year and charged with killing seven family members and a Sheriff’s Deputy after an argument with his estranged wife. Only last week did a Grand Jury return an indictment after delays in releasing evidence caused by short-staffing at the state’s crime lab. Godbolt reportedly has confessed to at least one of the murders. He is charged with four counts of capital murder, which could carry the death penalty. Plus four counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of armed robbery.
