MDOC Investigating Inmate’s Death At Parchman


PARCHMAN, MS (Ben Caxton) — Another prisoner has died in custody. The Mississippi Department of Corrections is investigating the Wednesday morning death of 20-year-old Parchman inmate Marel Gartney. Gartney was pronounced dead at 9:33 a.m. at the prison hospital. He was serving two sentences for a total of 10 years from Coahoma County after being convicted in September of 2013 for shooting into a dwelling and shooting at a motor vehicle. The cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy.
