Mayor Cox causes controversy on TV

Greenville Mayor John Cox has caused a stir by telling an NBC News Education Reporter that he would not send his children to Greenville Public Schools and that they went to private schools. Reaction ranged from City Councilman Errick Simmons demanding the Mayor’s resignation to others saying they don’t blame Cox for sending his kids to schools considered better since he could afford to do so. Cox has stood by the comments. He is a 1966 graduate of Greenville High School.
