Marshall County Train-van Crash Kills Two

MARSHALL COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — A freight train smashed into a van at a railroad crossing near Red Banks in Marshall County on this week, killing 27-year-old Chairty Ariel Mull and 27-year-old Brandon Deshawn Mosley of Memphis. Three other people were critically injured and taken to hospitals in Olive Branch and Memphis. Memphis-based American Veterans Moving Company said the workers in the van had just finished packing up a house; the train was carrying chemicals south from North Dakota, to Birmingham, Alabama. Members of the train crew were not injured. The crossing has lights and bells but no arms or gates, and no crashes have been reported at the crossing in recent years although 10 trains a day travel down the track at speeds up to 60 mph.
