Man Who Killed Mother-in-law Sentenced to Life Plus 30 Years

(Rankin County, MS) — A Rankin County man accused of murdering his mother-in-law pleaded guilty in court. After pleading guilty to first-degree murder and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, Robert Michael Busby was sentenced to serve life plus 30 years. After deputies responded to a shooting that happened on Carol Avenue in Florence back in October 2015, they found Cassaundra Ann Irwin shot in the head inside the home. Florence police spotted Busby’’s car on Highway 49 and tried to pull him over. While leading officers on a high-speed chase, he started shooting at them. When Busby finally stopped, he reached for a gun, officers shot him, and he was taken to the hospital. Busby admitted to the crime at the hospital.
