Man in NBA Player Murder Trial Pleads to Gun Charges

MEMPHIS, TN (Ben Caxton) — Billy Turner, the man accused of killing former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, has pled guilty to unrelated gun charges. His trial for weapons possession as a convicted felon was scheduled to begin Monday but he changed his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty” for a single charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon after a shotgun was found in his home. The second gun charge was dismissed and a third is pending. Turner will be sentenced next month and could spend as much as 20 years behind bars on the weapons charges. Turner and Wright’s ex-wife Sherra were charged with Lorenzen’s murder in 2017, more than seven years after he went missing. The two will go on trial for the murder in September. Prosecutors say they will not seek the death penalty for either suspect.
