Man Arrested for Poisoning Animals

(Flowood, MS) — Flowood police arrested a Hazlehurst man Wednesday for poisoning animals. 28-year-old John Colter Pyron was arrested for Animal Cruelty, Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance and Suspicion of Poisoning Animals. Residents were complaining that family pets were being found dead near the apartment complex where they lived. Several tips led to a search warrant of Pyron’s apartment where police found various items used to kill the animals. Investigators said at least four cats and several wild animals were poisoned when they ate from a can of tuna that contained a foreign substance. If convicted, Pyron faces up to 3 years and a $500 fine but if lab results prove the substance was a pesticide, he could spend 20 years in prison with $25,000 in fines.
