Man Admits to Killing Mother – on Mother’s Day

SHANNON, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Shannon man who killed his own mother on Mother’s Day in 2017 has been sentenced to life in prison. 37-year old Antonio Gladney pleaded guilty to the murder on Tuesday. Investigators said he was estranged from his mother, 66-year old Molly Gladney, and used flowers and a Mother’s Day card to gain entry to her house. She was killed with garden tools and other items. Antonio Gladney fled but returned that evening, spoke with officers and was arrested the next day. He was also sentenced to 25 years in prison for aggravated assault, threatening detention officers with a homemade knife while being held at the Lee County jail in June.
