Louie Sewell, age 82 of Greenville

Funeral services for Louie Sewell, 82, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 24 at Calvary Baptist Church. He passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at his home surrounded by family. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Smith Funeral Home, Greenville.

He was born on January 20, 1934 in Highlandale, MS (a small community outside Slaughter) to Henry Edmond and Lillie Mae Sewell. Louie graduated from Minter City High School in 1952 where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball.

Upon graduation from high school, he began a 43 year career with the US Gypsum Company in Greenville. At the time of retirement, he was a maintenance supervisor. During the 1950’s, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy.

Louie enjoyed many hobbies including growing a bountiful garden and sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Louie enjoyed and appreciated God’s great outdoors more than most. Being able to share in this adventure with family, members of Refuge Land and Timber and hunting and fishing buddies was in his words, “time well spent”. Although his hunting successes were legend, they paled in the delight he found spending time with his sons, grandchildren and great grandson riding ATV’s, fishing or just sitting around the kitchen table.

Mr. Sewell was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Greenville where he enjoyed all services including his Sunday School class.

He is preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Louis, brothers Jack and Henry “H.E.” Sewell, and one sister, Christine Waugh. Louie is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mearl Poe Sewell, one sister Elaine Cordell of Eupora, two sons, Edward Martin “Eddie” Sewell (Angie) of Greenville, Timothy Alan “Tim” Sewell (Gaye) of McKinney, TX, 5 Grandchildren; Edward Martin Sewell, Jr., Derek Wynn Sewell, Tyler Lane Sewell, Mary Madison Sewell, Lauren Alan Sewell, one great child, Peyton Thomas Sewell and a host of loving nephews and nieces.

There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the church.
