Lesbian couples in trying to change the same sex ban on fostering children

Four lesbian couples want a federal judge to stop Mississippi from enforcing a law that bans same sex couples from adopting or taking children into foster care. The request for a preliminary injunction was filed in U.S. District Court in Jackson. The couples and two gay rights groups filed suit to challenge the Mississippi ban. The injunction would stop the state from enforcing the law while it is challenged in court. The couples point to the Governors State of the State address that required a “mature, two-parent family not excluding same-sex couples. Mississippi is the last state to ban adoptions by same-sex couples.
