Leland race disputed

A candidate who ran unsuccessfully for the Leland School District Board of Trustees in Ward 4 in 2011 has claimed that redistricting means that the current holder of the seat lives in Ward 5, which already has a representative. Shannon Cannon communicated with the Attorney General’s Office and the Secretary of State’s Office about the matter and was advised to bring her concerns to the school board. A board attorney has given the opinion that if redistricting after an election results in two candidate in one ward, they are allowed to stay until the next election or there’s a vacancy.
