Leland Prisoners Moved As Police HQ Damaged

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Leland Police Chief and Leland City Officials tell Delta Daily News that the Police Department headquarters suffered severe damage in last night’s storm. Strong winds toppled the police radio tower. There was a gas leak inside the building this morning, and the roof has been heavily damaged. The police chief says they were on an emergency generator and a backup system for awhile this morning. The gas leak has been fixed. They’ll be working on the roof throughout the day to patch it up until the weather improves and more permanent repairs can be made. In the meantime, the inmates that were housed in the jail have been transported to the Washington County Regional Jail where they will remain until further notice.
