Leflore Judge Stops City Hotel Demolition

GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — There may not be any vacancies but the historic old Midway Hotel in Greenwood will be standing a least a little bit longer. Leflore County Circuit Judge Carol White-Richard on Friday blocked a demolition order by the city for the old structure. In her decision, White-Richard directed the City of Greenwood to provide building owner Larry “Blue” Neal a specific list of repairs to make to get the building to a point where the city does not consider it a safety hazard, not the up to $5 million estimated required to turn it into a “usable space”. The case has been under consideration since last October.
