Leflore County Man Facing Deportation

LEFLORE COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — A man who has lived in Mississippi the past 20 years has been given more time until facing possible deportation to Mexico. 36-year-old Martin Duron-Esparza met with federal immigration officials last week. Duron-Esparza immigrated to Leflore County as a 16-year-old. He never obtained documents for permanent residency but received annual work permits for six years. Those ended last June and he was told to leave the U.S. by April 13th but was later told he could stay in Greenwood until his children finished this school year. Immigration officials have set a possible departure date for June 1st but Duron-Esparaza is asking for permission to stay another year.
