Leflore County Decides to Act on Emergency Declaration

Chicot Memorial

LEFLORE COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — Leflore County Supervisors decided this week not to wait for an attorney general’s opinion before using an emergency declaration to let county employees go on private property to clean up storm damages. The storm, which hit the county two weekends ago downed numerous trees. The county has cleaned up county property and rights-of-way but there are still many trees that fell on private property that pose a hazard. The emergency declaration gives county employees the authority to remove those as well without seeking permission of the property owners first.
