Last Chance to Register to Vote Today

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — If you aren’t registered and want to cast a ballot in the federal mid-term election next month, today is your last day to send in your paperwork. By state law, new voters have until 5:00 PM this afternoon to register. Forms are available at circuit clerks’ offices. If you plan on sending the forms in by mail, you’ve got one extra day this year. They must be post-marked by tomorrow since today is a Federal holiday. On the ballot November 6 are a number of races for federal office. All four Mississippi House seats are up for re-election. And because Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran retired this spring both Senate seats are up for grabs as well. Across the Delta, there are a number of local and state positions for empty legislative seats, plus appellate court, circuit court, and chancery court judges. If no candidate receives 50% of the vote in any race, a runoff election will be held on November 27th.
