Kroger Isn’t Anywhere Visa Wants You to Be

THE DELTA (Ben Caxton) — Visa may be everywhere you want to be, unless where you want to be is buying groceries at a Delta area Kroger’s store. Kroger plans to stop accepting Visa credit cards next month. Beginning April 3rd Kroger-owned Smith’s supermarkets and gas stations in seven western states will still accept debit cards and major credit cards other than Visa but Kroger says the ban on Visa credit cards could expand to more states later this year. Retailers pay an estimated $90 billion in swipe fees annually and Visa’s rates are some of the highest charged.
