"King Biscuit Time" Radio Host Passes At 92

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — John William Payne passed away this weekend in Helena-West Helena. Better known as “Sunshine” Sonny Payne, he hosted the world’s longest-running daily blues show, “King Biscuit Time” on KFFA Radio since 1951. Payne received many awards including the George Foster Peabody Award, the Arkansas Broadcasters Association’s Pioneer Award, and twice was honored with the Blues Foundation’s Keeping the Blues Alive Award and was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2010. Sonny turned 92 last December and recently suffered a stroke.
