"Junk" Vehicles Hot Topic in Clarksdale

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — At Monday’s meeting, Clarksdale’s mayor and commissioners appointed Joan Morris to the Clarksdale Municipal School District board of trustees. A teacher with more than two decades of experience in Clarksdale, she replaces attorney Rob Tyner who has resigned. Much of the meeting was routine, but 10 minutes was consumed by a discussion with Artis Ferguson and Mark Carter about vehicles parked at 428 Desoto. The cars, some with body damage and termed “junk”, were a topic at last month’s town hall meeting and the board asked the owners to work with code enforcement to find a solution. Ferguson owns an auto repair shop, stated all of the vehicles were drivable and saw no problem parking them in front of a commercial building, adding that repairing and reselling cars is his business.
