THE DELTA (Ben Caxton) — If you haven’t been around, here’s what’s been in the news this week in the Delta. Last weekend we learned a Clarksdale Police Car was involved in a fatal accident, while a man being released from jail in Vicksburg bolted early and faces escape charges and Vicksburg passed the baton to a new police chief. On Monday, four teenagers, including a 13-year-old, were formally charged with murder in Greenville, and a military transport crashed along Highway 82 near Itta Bena killing 16 servicemen on board. A Tuesday fire killed a Yazoo City woman but neighbors rescued her husband. A fire destroyed a home on Harvey Street in Greenville as the Greenville Fire Department added three new captains. Greenville saw its second homicide in four days after a fight and shooting at a local nightclub. Wednesday brought news of a North Carolina Firm buying Backyard Burgers, two Mississippi inmate deaths, and an arrest for a man who burned down a railroad bridge in Grenada. Possible locations were announced this week for a new $40M Federal Courthouse in Greenville, and a Greenville Hotel employee stopped an armed car burglary at gunpoint. All this and more, this week, was on Delta Radio and online at www.deltadailynews.com.
