Juke Joint Festival Gets $1000 Check at Cpu Board Meeting

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — At yesterday’s public meeting of the Clarksdale Public Utilities board, Stan Lister from Kansas City Power and Light presented a $1000 check to the Juke Joint Festival. KCP&L also made donations this week to the Care Station, the Taste of Clarksdale, the Chamber of Commerce and Coahoma County Youth Outreach. Lister noted that KCP&L annually gives about $30,000 to organizations in Clarksdale. In his report to the board general manager Mark Johnson noted that CPU has installed about 5500 new AMU electric meters and expressed concern that water getting into the walls of the administration building could drive the cost of planned renovations into the millions. Architects will be meeting with CPU officials this week to explore options. The board also voted to advertise for bids to cut grass at the wastewater treatment and south power plant and in executive session considered personnel and litigation matters
