Jonestown Hires Replacement for Fired Carlos Moore

JONESTOWN, MS (Ben Caxton) — After many months without one, Jonestown finally has a city attorney again. City councilmen this month hired Clarksdale municipal judge Derek Hopson to fill the vacancy created when the often controversial Carlos Moore was terminated last October. At the same meeting, citizens and aldermen discussed issues involving the town’s police department, from a shortage of officers to missing equipment. After two other positions were eliminated last year, part-time chief Rico Smith is the lone law enforcement official. The officers who were laid off reportedly turned their weapons and other equipment in but it is not accounted for.

  1. What did he do to get fired? It seems like there’s a lot of controversy surrounding this guy. Smh.
