ITTA BENA, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Magnolia State’s smallest public university is getting a new president. And it’s the one most folks on campus seemed to be rooting for. Jerryl Briggs, who has been acting president at Mississippi Valley State University since June, was named to the post without a broad search by College Board trustees Thursday. The announcement was made today on the Itta Bena Campus by Trustee Shane Hooper and Higher Education Commissioner Glenn Boyce. Briggs replaces former President William Bynum, his longtime colleague, and friend, who left to become president of Jackson State University.
