Jackson Adds Another Shooting To Weekend Death Toll

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Along with the eight dead in Lincoln County, and another shooting death in Vicksburg this weekend, Jackson has added to the toll. Police say two people have been arrested in a double shooting that killed one person Saturday night on Gammil Street in West Jackson. 23-year-old Jayland Henderson and 32-year-old Travia Henderson have been arrested for murder and one count of aggravated assault in the death of 26-year-old Jamie Washington. The shooting occurred just before 9:00 PM. When Jackson Police arrived on the scene they say they found Washington and 23-year-old Rodriquez Byrd shot. Both transported to UMMC for medical treatment. Byrd suffered a single gunshot wound to the foot and is listed in stable condition. Washington was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Police say that there had been a fight between several people and two men pulled out weapons and began shooting. After the two victims were shot, the suspects fled the scene in what appeared to be a white Ford Crown Victoria and a gray or primed “Box” style Chevy vehicle. It is not known if the victims were involved in the fight.
