Inmate Dies In Fight At Private Prison

WILKINSON COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — An inmate has died after a fight at a privately run Mississippi prison. 39-year-old Deandre Davis died Wednesday at the Management & Training Corporation-operated Wilkinson County Correctional Facility. Davis was wounded during a fight in the housing area and died in an ambulance; his death is under investigation, and the prison was put on lockdown. Davis was serving a life sentence for murder, armed robbery and arson after being convicted in Tunica County in 2003. In 2001 Davis and two other people were traveling from Helena-West Helena, Arkansas to buy beer in Tunica. The other passenger testified that Davis killed the driver, 30-year-old Kevin Knowlton, by shooting him in the back of the head and burned the car with Knowlton’s body inside.
