Incumbents Cruise to Victory Tuesday Night

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Incumbent Republican Senator Roger Wicker, and Democrat Congressman Bennie Thompson cruised to easy victories in their races yesterday. Wicker garnered 58.9% of the ballots counted, with about 95% of the votes in, to his challenger, Democrat David Baria’s 39.1%. 2nd District Democrat Congressman Bennie Thompson received 71.6% of the vote in his West Mississippi district with challengers Troy Ray and Irving Harris far behind at 21.9% and 6.5% of the vote. 1st District Republican incumbent Trent Kelly and 4th District Republican incumbent Steve Palazzo both won by 2 to 1 margins. Republican Michael Guest won Mississippi’s only open house race in District three by 63% to 36% over Democrat challenger Michael Evans.
