If You’re Not Passing, Keep Right. Or Else.

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Some Mississippi lawmakers want drivers to stop camping out in the left lane. Last week the House of Representatives passed HB80 which says vehicles shouldn’t be driven in the left-hand lane of any road with four or more lanes when the vehicle is impeding traffic. Drivers should use the left lane only for passing traffic, for a left-hand turn or left exit or if the right lane is closed or otherwise impassible. Pascagoula Republican and House Transportation Committee Chairman Charles Busby proposed a fine of up to $50 for violations; if the Senate agrees and Governor Phil Bryant signs the law, it would take effect July 1st.
