Hotel Rezoning Decision on Greenville Council Agenda

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Greenville City Council will take up the question of whether or not to turn on the “Vacancy” sign for a proposed new Chawla Hotel. Chawla has proposed building a new hotel along Highway 1 South near the Nelco Cinema Complex. But, construction can’t start unless the property is rezoned. At its last meeting, the council tabled approval of the rezoning of the lot at 600 Rayner Road from C-4, General Commercial District, to C-3, Central Business District until the City Attorney had a chance to review the proposal. The Greenville Planning Commission has recommended approval. The council may give the green light to the project on Tuesday.
