Hospital Warns Of Ongoing Phone Scam In Drew County

DREW COUNTY, AR (Ben Caxton) — An Arkansas is hospital is warning county residents to watch out for a telephone scam where callers purporting to be from the hospital try to steal bank and credit card information. Drew Memorial Hospital Chief Quality Officer Jodie Efrid says someone is making calls disguised with the caller-ID of the hospital’s real number. The caller starts the conversation identifying herself as staff member “Christy” who encourages the individual who answers to consolidate their credit cards. Hospital administration warns that other scams imitating the hospital’s phone number may also be in practice. If you’re unsure whether it’s a legitimate call or not, the best thing to do is to hang up, and call the hospital back directly. Efrid added that the hospital would never call patients or other community members with the intent to sell any product or service, and any similar calls should be reported to police immediately.
