Helena-West Helena Sees Two Homicides In One Week

HELENA-WEST HELENA, AR (Ben Caxton) — The fourth and fifth homicides of the year in Helena-West Helena took place last week. 20-year old Robert Newman was shot five times just after midnight Tuesday outside his uncle’s residence; he was airlifted to a Memphis hospital where he died. Witnesses told police they spotted a green SUV following the shooting and police are pursuing persons of interest. On the same day, law enforcement officials discovered a body inside a burned car on a rural road just outside the city limits. Unconfirmed reports said it was the body of an 18-year-old. Police have not determined whether or not the two homicides are related.
