GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — Despite the owner’s claims that the Midway Hotel is one of the “soundest” buildings on Carrolton Avenue, the city council has voted to have the structure demolished. Larry “Blue” Neal, owner of hotel told the council that he had a contractor ready to be hird and planned to turn the building into a veteran’s home. But the city hired structural engineer, Mark Watson of Tupelo, reported that the Midway Hotel is unrepairable. The east side of the building has been blocked off as a safety precaution since April. No date has been set for the demolition. Neal has 10 days to appeal the city’s decision.
