Greenwood Police Searching For Hit And Run Suspect

GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — Greenwood Police say they still have no suspects in a car-pedestrian accident that left an elderly Greenwood bicyclist dead January 11th. 64-year-old John Maggett was reportedly riding his bicycle home from a visit to friends along Martin Luther King Drive in Greenwood when he was struck around 11:30 PM. A passerby found his body the next morning and called the police. Greenwood’s police chief, Ray Moore said debris found at the sight points to the vehicle being a 1997 to 2003 Ford F-150 or a Ford Expedition, with extensive damage on the driver’s side. Maggett’s body and his bike were found just several hundred yards from where his friends last saw him. They only found out he didn’t make it home when they were informed of his death the following morning. Anyone with information about the vehicle involved or its owner should contact the Greenwood Police Department.
