Greenwood Leflore Hospital Gets New Board Member

GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Greenwood Leflore Hospital has one new board member today and a battle for a second seat. On a 6-0 vote with one abstention the Greenwood City Council Tuesday appointed Fire Chief Marcus Banks and local businessman Harris Powers Jr. to the two empty seats on the hospital board. Powers can be seated immediately as he is filling a seat that the City of Greenwood controls. Banks was appointed to a seat that requires approval of both the city and county, and Leflore County has already made its own recommendation for that seat, computer consultant Edgar Bland. The board has been operating with just three members since May. The hospital will be seeing a multi-million dollar loss again this year, the third in a row.

  1. Dear “GLH”Greenwood,
My family is going through some tough times right now. My niece is very sick. This morning we had to rush her to the hospital because of some very painful illness. Medstat came to pick her up. A man and a woman. They were both so patient with us/her. The guy was an older man who said that he had been doing this for quite some time. He had brain cancer and was a survivor of 14 years. His life was a true testimony. He was great at his job.
Then at the hospital it was kind of peaceful and quiet when we got there. The doctors and nurses were very professional in doing their job.
But when we got up stairs to her room OMG!! The rooms were clean and neat, the nurses, aids and staff were wonderful. BUT THESE TWO nurses that took care of her loved their jobs and patients. They took care of my precious Package as if it was a package of theirs. Ladies, I don’t know you but I love you both. Because the pain she was in you didn’t stop until you took care of her. You stayed late, you got her to smile. And for the first time I can really say that I could relax and take a nap knowing that she was in good hands with Greenwood Leflore Hospital. I could not go to sleep without sharing this. Because I expected my family, friends and church members to show love but I didn’t expect, not one! not two, but more ppl (and of Other race) too be so caring. I can said, “Lord you showed up….
