Greenwood Hospital Board Silent on Affiliation

GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — A proposal to tie the Greenwood Leflore Hospital into an affiliation with the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson was met with silence at a Tuesday Hospital Board meeting. The proposal which has been seen as gathering support from the city and hospital staff was discussed briefly by board members according to a physician who sat in on the meeting as reported in the Greenwood Commonwealth newspaper. But according to the report, none of the three board members attending the meeting made a motion to approve the affiliation agreement. UMMC has said it would provide an interim CEO for the financially distressed hospital and medical staff unanimously voted their support for the management agreement last week. Both the city and county governments have authorized feasibility studies for the agreement, as well. It is not clear how the non-vote by the current three-member hospital board members may affect the proposal going forward.
