Greenville-Weston High School could face a state takeover next year

Chicot Memorial

After receiving a F from the state for the past two years, Greenville-Weston High School is now on a list of more than 30 schools around Mississippi that could face a state takeover by next year. A law passed in 2010 gives the state the right to take over schools that are deemed to be failing for three years in a row. A takeover could involve the dismissal of the entire staff, who would be replaced by new hires. But any takeover is not considered likely in the near future, since the state has acknowledged that the number of schools eligible for takeover is more than could be accomplished at one time.
