Greenville Primary Results Are Now Official

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — The city primary is all over but the shouting in Greenville. The Greenville City Clerk’s office has certified the vote totals from last week’s elections. Two candidates squared off in the Democrat primary for Ward 4 with the incumbent Betty Watkins losing to newcomer Lurann Thomas by two votes. Watkins challenged the results. But with the certification, and only absentee ballots yet to be checked it appears that Thomas will be declared the winner officially. The ultimate winner in the Ward 4 primary is unopposed for the seat in the next election and will likely be seated on the council.
