Greenville Overgrown With Abandoned Lots

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — Greenville residents complained about overgrown lots and abandoned houses to the city council last week and while the city’s planning director understands the frustration about blight, the city’s $150,000 budget is too little to maintain all the overgrown lots. Greenville has cleaned up about 500 overgrown and a private contractor has maintained 200. The city has also demolished 75 structures this year.

  1. The city should think about a moratorium on any new buildings/homes until they are at 80% capacity on existing structures forcing business & homebuilders to refurbish existing building/homes. Give grants/tax relief to help out new home buyers/businesses to buy in existing neighborhoods/strip malls to increase property values.
