Greenville native and Former NFL Star Quentin Groves Passes Away

(Greenville, MS)- Some tragic news across the country, but it hit harder right here in the Mississippi Delta. The former Auburn football star Quentin Groves, who played defensive end for the Tigers from 2004 to 2007 and was a second-round N.F.L. draft pick, has died. He was 32. The Auburn spokesman Kirk Sampson said Saturday that Groves had died in his sleep while visiting Trinidad, his wife’s native country. Sampson said he did not know the cause of death. Groves said in 2008 that he had received a diagnosis of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which causes a rapid heartbeat. A true pillar in our community who’s vision was to empower and encourage the youth in Greenville, with his campaign IAMGREENVILLE. On behalf of Delta Daily News, we are deeply saddened by this loss, and our condolences go out to his family, friends, and the community.
