Greenville High School Player Remains Hospitalized

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — Friday’s game between Madison Central and Greenville was canceled after a Greenville Hornets player was seriously injured while trying to make a tackle. Junior defensive back Jeremiah Williams suffered a helmet-to-helmet collision in the first quarter of the game which caused him to stop breathing. Trainers performed CPR on Williams and he was taken by helicopter to a Jackson hospital. Reports indicate he fractured two vertebrae in his neck and remains hospitalized and on a ventilator. Greenville Mayor Errick Simmons issued a statement thanking the City of Madison and its residents for their support and prayers. Simmons son Errick, Jr. plays wide receiver for the Greenville football team.
