Graverobbers Steal Colonel Reb’s Headstone

OXFORD, MS (Ben Caxton) — In 2003 the University of Mississippi killed its Colonel Reb mascot. Now four people have stolen his fictional headstone. On January 31st the owners of a now-closed restaurant told Oxford police that a headstone commemorating Colonel Reb was missing. Last week 20-year-old Kelli Ann Camp of Oxford, 19-year-old Jose Meraz of Coldwater, 19-year-old Nathan Moss of Grenada and 20-year-old Brandon Byrd of Southaven surrendered to police and agreed to return the headstone valued at $1500. They were charged with grand larceny and released after posting $1500 bail.
