Governor Signs New Bills Into Law

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — With the stroke of his pen, Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant turned a number of new bills into law Wednesday. The bills included HB336, the “Mississippi Military Family Relief Fund Act” that will assist families impacted because of a loved one’s military deployment, the “Fantasy Contest Act” which deals with fantasy sports betting and clarifies the terms of cash prizes, entry fees, and how the state benefits from sales and participation, the “Prescription Monitoring Program” that will now require all healthcare providers to enroll in a prescription monitoring program that tracks prescriptions, when they were written, and to whom they were prescribed, and the Delta Radio Newsroom office favorite by acclamation, HB1321, which allows certain cities with a population of 1,500 or more to hold an election to allow the sale of beer and wine. We all voted for that one.
