Fours Years In Prison For Tax Preparer

GULFPORT, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Gulfport woman who admitted to filing false tax returns has been sentenced to four years in prison. 65-year-old Doris Kelley pleaded guilty to charges of impeding internal revenue laws and aiding in the preparation of a false tax return in April. Kelley operated a tax return business from her home and kept funds from several clients who owed taxes to the IRS. Kelley provided her clients with accurate copies but filed bogus returns without her customer’s knowledge. The scheme caused a $500,000 tax loss.
